Where the data comes from
Every position published here comes from the official registers of the market authorities. Nothing is estimated, nothing is filled in. The table below shows, for each market, whether the last collection succeeded and how far the data goes.

Reuse: each register belongs to its authority, named above with a link to its own publication. Where a source publishes its data under a licence, it is cited here along with the date our figures stop at.

The trace of every figure
For each market: the exact file that answered, the time it was read, the number of rows it produced and the number set aside as unreadable. Every figure on the site can be traced back to the file it came from.
The rows set aside are the ones a regulator publishes without a readable position: a below-threshold marker, an empty date cell, a separator line. Their number is shown here: if a source changes format, this column reports it before the totals move.
Nothing is typed in by hand: every total is recomputed from these files at each collection. To redo the count, keep one row per fund, its most recent disclosure, and set aside the ones for which the authority has published an end date. Where the result differs from the figures shown here, the regulator's file prevails.
What to know about these registers
A net short position must be reported from 0.1% of capital but is only made public from 0.5%. The totals shown here therefore never represent all short selling.
A fund rediscloses its position at every move. The current position is its most recent disclosure; the earlier ones are history.
The FSMA no longer publishes a file: the positions are read from its public page.
The FMA no longer publishes a file: the positions are read from its public page.
The KNF no longer publishes a file: the positions are read from its public page.
Since 13 July 2026 the FCA no longer publishes the name of the funds, only the total per company.
The Finanstilsynet updates its file only once a month: this market is behind the others by construction, and the "Data up to" column says by how much.
JPX also publishes the positions of securities firms, far below the threshold other markets use. Its companies compare, its holders do not, so this market is kept out of the ranking of the busiest short sellers.
ASIC has never named the sellers: it publishes one total per company, with a four trading day delay. This market therefore has no page per fund.
FINRA publishes a number of shares, not a share of capital, and only twice a month. This market therefore appears in no ranking shared with the others.
